It depends on the university — there's no single national deadline. Most public universities open their fall cycle in June or July and close in August or September, while several private universities run admissions into October. Our Deadlines page lists the fall admission last date for every cycle we track, sorted by how many days are left, with closed cycles kept visible so you can see roughly when the next intake tends to open. Admission calendars shift slightly every year, so treat the dates there as a strong starting point and confirm the live date on the university's own site.

Spring intake is smaller than fall — mainly run by private universities and a handful of public ones filling leftover seats — typically opening applications from December through February for a February or March start. It's a real option if you missed the fall admission last date in Pakistan, or want to start a semester later without waiting a full year. Test dates vary by test and by year, but most follow a predictable window: MDCAT for medical colleges runs in September, ECAT for Punjab's engineering universities in July or August, NET for NUST multiple times a year, and NAT for COMSATS and others on a rolling basis. SAT, used as an alternative by universities like LUMS and Habib, follows the College Board's own international calendar. For computer science specifically, NUST, FAST-NUCES, LUMS, GIKI, COMSATS and IBA Karachi are the names that consistently come up, each with a BSCS or closely related programme, its own entry test or merit criteria, and a very different fee range. Every engineering admission body publishes its own weighted formula, and they differ more than most applicants expect. UET Lahore's ECAT-based aggregate weights the entry test at 33%, FSc at 50% and Matric at 17%; NUST's NET-based formula weights the test far more heavily, at 75%. GIKI drops Matric almost entirely in favour of its own admission test. As a rule, public-sector universities charge a fraction of private-sector tuition — often PKR 15,000–40,000 per semester against PKR 150,000+ at established private universities — which is the core of the government vs private university fee comparison most families are actually trying to make. Yes — nearly every university in Pakistan runs some combination of HEC-backed, need-based and merit-based financial aid, though the size and eligibility bar vary widely by institution. Need-based scholarships typically require a household-income declaration and can cover anywhere from partial tuition to a full waiver plus stipend at some private universities; merit-based aid is usually tied to your admission aggregate or ongoing GPA. Admission criteria shift more by sector than by city — a public university's criteria in Lahore and Peshawar tend to look similar, while private universities set their own bar regardless of location — but the concentration of options differs.
